What it is

Pancake is an outbound prospecting service designed to be operated by an AI agent. Its makers pitch it on Product Hunt as "The Vercel for GTM", where it was #1 Product of the Day on 14 October 2026. Maker Tristan Comte describes the gap it fills: "Claude and Codex can already plan your go-to-market. They can't run it."

The Pancake homepage sets out the starting point: "From your website, Pancake learns who buys from you, what to say, and where to find them." Pancake calls this model the GTM Brain.

Who it's for

Solo founders and small teams who already work through Claude or Codex and want their agent to run prospecting. If you are new to MCP, start with our piece on Composio, the integration layer for AI agents.

What it actually does

  • Runs Plays. A Play is "a saved search for one audience" that keeps searching on a schedule. Pancake ships 120 example Plays across 40 business types. Leads come from signals such as keyword posts, competitor or influencer engagement, hiring, tech stack, funding and lookalikes.

  • Pulls from 30+ data providers. Named providers include Apify, Dealroom, Firecrawl, Wappalyzer, Coresignal and TheirStack. If you have read our Firecrawl review, you will recognise the web-evidence layer.

  • Keeps you as the approver. "You approve every lead before anyone is contacted." Each approve or reject decision trains the GTM Brain.

  • Sends from your own account. Messages go out under your name after a light warm-up. One sending account is included, and a Play can rotate across up to ten. A reply stops the sequence, and positive replies receive your calendar link.

The Plays FAQ is explicit about what Pancake leaves out: "It doesn't send outreach by email, sync to your CRM, identify website visitors, find phone numbers or make calls." The docs do not name the sending channel, so confirm it during the trial.

Pricing

Pancake bills on credits, monthly only, per workspace. There are no seat fees, and a second brand needs its own workspace and plan. All figures are from the Pancake pricing page.

  • Lead research costs about 100–500 credits per lead; narrow audiences cost more, and an estimate is shown before each search. A work email adds 50 credits, charged only when one is found.

  • Plays, messages and replies use no credits.

  • Extra sending accounts are $39 a month each.

  • When credits run out, searches pause and there is no overage billing. Unused credits roll over, up to one month's allowance.

  • The trial gives 15,000 credits for 7 days and requires a credit card. Payments are non-refundable except where required by law, so cancel before day seven if it is not for you.

Getting started

Pancake runs as a remote MCP server at https://app.pancake.ai/api/mcp with browser OAuth. Per the install instructions, "Pancake does not issue a workspace API key for this setup."

  1. Start the trial on the pricing page and let Pancake read your website.

  2. Connect your agent. In Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user pancake https://app.pancake.ai/api/mcp
# then run /mcp inside Claude Code to authorise

In Codex, run codex mcp add pancake --url https://app.pancake.ai/api/mcp, then codex mcp login pancake. In Claude web or desktop, go to Settings, then Connectors, and add a custom connector with the same URL; it then works on Claude mobile too.

  1. Pick one example Play close to your business and ask for a capped run. Pancake's Claude and Codex guide suggests: "Find me [10] new leads today. Stay under [3,000] credits and tell me what you spent." Claude shows the cost first.

  2. Review the leads yourself for the first week. Your decisions are the training data.

If your agent already runs your day, as in our Claude Cowork walkthrough, lead review becomes one more scheduled task.

Alternatives

  • Clay: pick it if you want to build your own enrichment tables and research logic. Its pricing page lists Launch at $167/month on its headline and $185/month in its FAQ, with about 2,500 to 3,000 data credits and 15,000 actions a month, so confirm the figure before you buy. A free plan exists.

  • lemlist: pick it for granular sequences across several channels. The Email plan is $69/month ($55 on yearly billing) with warm-up and a deliverability hub plus its own MCP and CLI; Multichannel is $109 per user per month and adds LinkedIn automation. Pancake's own lemlist comparison concedes lemlist fits better when operators need "granular sequences, channel breadth".

  • Instantly: pick it if cold email volume is the job. Outreach Growth is $47/month for 5,000 emails, 1,000 uploaded contacts and unlimited email accounts with warm-up, with no card needed to start. It does not advertise an MCP server.

Limitations

  • No email outreach, CRM sync or calling, and no deliverability tooling by Pancake's own comparison.

  • Each search keeps up to 50 new leads.

  • Cursor cannot connect yet. Pancake supports OAuth CIMD, not Dynamic Client Registration, so some MCP clients will fail.

  • On Product Hunt, one reviewer asked for observability features, and one commenter could not delete an account created with the wrong email and found onboarding hard to exit. The 5.0 rating rests on three reviews.

  • Homepage outcome figures, including "built to land 2 to 3 customers a month", are Pancake's own unverified claims.

Verdict

❝

"The first outbound stack built agent-first: worth it if an agent already runs your day, overkill if you send 20 messages a week."

Pancake's value lies in its structure: approved leads, a Brain that learns from your decisions, credit ceilings your agent respects, and nothing billed beyond the plan. At $99 a month that suits a founder whose agent already runs a daily routine. At a handful of messages a week, a manual list costs less, and Instantly or lemlist cover email if you need it.
